- Morphology: elliptical in ventral view sometimes with a slight shift of the apex to the left side, no pyrenoids, straight furrow
- Cell size: 15-18 x 9-10 x 8-9µm
- Only cryptomorphs known (IPC made of polygonal periplast plates)
- Cells usually embedded in palmella
