Eueides lineata
Margarita BeltránCharacteristics
Early stages: Eggs are green and white and approximately 0.9 x 0.8 mm (h x w). Females usually place eggs singly under older leaves of the host plant. Mature larvae have a green and yellow body with black and white spots and stripes, with black scoli and orange head; length is around 1 cm. Caterpillars are gregarious in small numbers (Brown, 1981).
Adult: Adults are similar to E. aliphera but with bolder black markings on the wings.
Geographical distribution
Eueides lineata is distributed in Central America. The map below shows an approximate representation of the geographic distribution of this species. The original data used to draw these maps are derived from Brown (1979) which is available at Keith S. Brown Jr. (1979). Ecological Geography and Evolution in Neotropical Forests.
Habits
E. lineata occurs from sea level to 1,300 m in forests. Usually individuals fly rapidly often along streams or in the middlestory (Brown, 1981).
Hostplant: E. lineata larvae feed primarily on plants from the genus Passiflora subgenus Astrophea and Polyanthea (Brown, 1981).
