Stoloteuthis weberi
Michael Vecchione and Richard E. YoungIntroduction
Stoloteuthis weberi, known only from the type specimen, was originally placed in Heteroteuthis. The enlarged suckers on arms II of the male, the apparently large venral shield, the large fins, the strong indentation for the funnel on the ventral mantle margin and the rounded posterior lobe of each fin suggest that this species is closest to members of Stoloteuthis in spite of the lack of fusion of the dorsal mantle margin to the head. Unfortunately little descriptive detail is known for this species. A re-description based on the holoype or additional material is badly needed.
Brief diagnosis:
A Stoloteuthis with...
- free dorsal-mantle margin.
Characteristics
- Arms
- Arms II with two enlarged suckers and one moderately enlarged.

Comments
This description is taken from Joubin (1902).
The position of S. weberi in Stoloteuthis is tentative until more characteristics of this species are known. Comparisons with other members of Stoloteuthis is found on the Stoloteuthis page.
